ITC favors Chinese company in SigmaTel patent suit
China-based fabless IC company Actions Semiconductor Co. said Friday (Aug. 4) that the U.S. International Trade Commission has issued a determination in favoring Actions in the patent infringement lawsuit between the company and Austin-based semiconductor supplier SigmaTel Inc. On June 20, the ITC modified a key claim construction under patent 522 and requested that administrative law judge reconsider the infringement issue in light of the modified claim construction. After reconsidering the infringement issue, the judge determined that Actions' products utilizing current firmware 952436 do not infringe the disputed patent. Actions has previously denied infringing Sigma-Tel patents. The final determination is expected to be issued Sept. 15. SigmaTel issued an announcement of its own Friday, saying the ITC judge's recent ruling does not affect the full ITC's previous ruling that all of the accused Actions products and firmware versions infringe SigmaTel's 6,633,187 patent.
